June 1 St. 2002
10 months ago, we agreed that today was the date we would begin our
great adventure.
The plan is that we will leave for Halifax, Canada on June 10th.
The LandCruiser has already been shipped via container ship, as you
can see by checking the "Technical Details" link on our main page.
We celebrated this day by inviting friends and family to a farewell
garden party - and we were extremely lucky with the weather.
Danish weather is very unpredictable when it comes to planning these
kinds of parties.

Most of our friends and close relatives showed up to wish us a good
journey and we received many farewell presents which. according to our
friends. would be helpful on our journey. We'll keep you posted!
E.g. Danish football hats, just in case that Denmark scores any goals
at all in the ongoing VM.
We most likely wouldn't notice since we never watch the stuff anyway
!
A health travel guide book with several very detailed descriptions
of different bacteria. viruses and intestinal worms which we might
encounter during our journey into (for us) unknown territories. I almost
got sick just by reading in the book :-)
A portable travel toilet, a solar powered AM/FM radio and a travel
sewing machine and, not to forget, a nice travel tools collection.
The guys at Nokia gave us a book full of pictures from Denmark that
we can show to the people we meet around the world. And lots of liquorice!!
I received a T-shirt with a picture of two of my colleagues printed
on the back.
I surely hope that I will not get shot or arrested wearing it
(or maybe this was the sole purpose, Kaare and Nikolaj)!!.
We have now been informed by our shipping agent that our ship from
Germany to Halifax is delayed for two days, resulting in arrival in Halifax
on June 13 Th.
Engine problems we have been told !.
I am happy if the container get safe to Canada and not Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia.
We will just have to spend a few days exploring the Nova Scotia area
while we wait. But that doesn't sound too bad anyway!
Thanks to everyone who showed up at our farewell reception and everyone
who participated in making our farewell party a memorable day.
I the following days you should not assume too much activity on our
home page, as we are right now trying to tie all the loose ends and get
the final paperwork done.
Let's see, maybe I will give some short reports of the status.
I assume that the stress level will increase slightly as we approach
our departure date.
Leaving home for one year requires a "few details" to be in place.
